Celeste DeWald

Celeste DeWald became Executive Director of the California Association of Museums in May 2004. Previously, she worked in both administrative and education positions at the Art Museum of Santa Cruz County, Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center, Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African Art, San Jose Museum of Art, and National Steinbeck Center. She graduated from John F. Kennedy University in Orinda with a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies and, while completing her degree, was the Project Assistant for Museum Mission Statements: Building a Distinct Institutional Identity, published by the American Association of Museums. For her work at the National Steinbeck Center, Celeste was honored with the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the National Association for Interpretation. More recently, she has: participated in AAM’s International Partnerships Among Museums program, which involved a personnel exchange with a museum in Valparaiso, Chile; was co-chair of the American Association for State and Local History’s Awards Program; been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, San Diego Union-Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and other newspapers on issues pertaining to California museums; participated in national discussions about future funding for museums; served as a Special Advisor to the California Arts Education Strategic Task Force; and has spoken on a variety of topics at conferences or professional meetings.


Sarah Post

Sarah Post became the Program Coordinator for the California Association of Museums in June, 2008. She obtained her B.A. from San Diego State University in Classics with an emphasis in Classical Humanities and a minor in Art History. In May 2008, Sarah completed her M.A. in Museums Studies from San Francisco State University. Her master’s thesis was entitled Building a Better Board in California Historical Societies. Previously, she has worked for the San Diego Historical Society and the San Francisco Museum of Craft+Design and interned with the Hayward Area Historical Society and Wells Fargo Historical Services. Sarah has a deep interest in California museums, especially historical societies and small history museums.
