ADVOCACY PROGRAMS

BILL MONITORING AND LEGISLATIVE INVOLVEMENT
Our Government Relations Committee monitors legislation, takes positions on key bills, attends hearings and meets with elected officials to voice our support or opposition. We also periodically issue policy statements to California legislators to inform them of the vital role museums play in California communities. Regular email updates and social media posts keep our constituents informed and involved in relevant State affairs.

ADVOCACY, TRAINING AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
For over twelve years, we have organized a variety of advocacy events or programs, depending on the needs and circumstances of the year. We have gathered at the State Capitol for Museums’ Advocacy Day, and we have celebrated California Museums Month in May – all to communicate why museums matter to legislators, policy makers and the public. We also provide tools and resources so that museum professionals can effectively build relationships with their legislators and other elected officials.

STATE AND NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

We partner with state agencies and national associations to achieve shared goals. For example, CAM is a member of an American Association of Museums' government relations workgroup, a partner in Museums Advocacy Day in Washington DC and has been a member of the American Association for State and Local History Federal-State Partnerships for Museums Coalition since 2006.
