A Smithsonian affiliate and AAM accredited, Japanese American National Museum is recognized as one of the nation’s premier cultural museums. Adjacent to Metro Gold Line in the Little Tokyo/Arts district in downtown Los Angeles.


The Communications Assistant provides support to Marketing and Communications staff in the promotion of exhibitions, public programs, events, and other initiatives. Tasks include media research, writing press releases, responding to media inquiries, communication with other cultural institutions for cross-promotional opportunities, selecting and organizing photographs for a variety of uses, and assisting with social media and other digital platforms.


Requires occasional evening and weekend hours. Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or English preferred. Minimum 2 years public relations/communications work experience, preferably including prior employment with a non-profit, museum, or marketing organization. Knowledge of Japanese American history/culture; sensitivity to issues of diversity and ethnicity. Experience with MS Office, Photoshop, Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and Gmail required.
