May Collection Specialist and NAGPRA Coordinator

This is a temporary, part-time position (30 hours per week) for the calendar year 2022, with a possibility of renewal through June 2023. Our new colleague will split their time between day-to-day tasks associated with professional maintenance and stewardship of the David W. May Collection--approximately 2500 objects--and assisting the Provost’s Office of the University with its legal and ethical responsibilities related to compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (1990, aka NAGPRA) and CalNAGPRA.

This position works under the supervision of the Director of University Galleries, exercising occasional supervision over University of San Diego students working in the May Collection as gallery guides. The Coordinator will also support visiting colleagues/guests involved in consultation about over cultural patrimony.
